Schlafly Biere De Garde
If you have read these beer reviews often, you will already know that I am a fan of Schlafly and the many styles of beer they produce. This week I would like to focus on the Schlafly Biere De Garde because it is one of my favorite picks for a refreshing summer brew. Schlafly started brewing in 1991 at their St. Louis location and haven't looked back. They continue to produce many top notch styles of beer that are appealing to just about anyone from their low alcohol APA to their huge Barleywine that has been aged with oak. The Schlafly Biere De Garde is a French farmhouse style that has a nice tart fruitiness with a sweetness coming from the malt. Floral hops show through as well which gives this beer great complexity. The aromas are of malt, raisins, and bread. The palate will pick up citrus, caramel, and good spicy notes that will finish right on time. This medium bodied brew is very versatile when pairing with foods and can be aged for several years as the flavors will continue to meld together and mature beautifully.
