If you’ve been by the store recently, you may have visited our new beer cellar. We’re really excited about it over here at Cool Springs Wines & Spirits. As you walk in the store, just head directly to your left.

It’s currently located where Frank’s Value Cellar used to be. But don’t worry! Frank’s value wines are still located in that general location. The truth is that Frank’s Value Cellar outgrew that location and needed a little more room to spread its wings. The leftover space was perfect for a beer cellar.

Why a beer cellar? For those of you new to the interesting beer laws in Tennessee, it breaks down like this. To sell any beer above 6.2% alcohol, you must have a liquor license. Thus you can’t find many of the best beers available in grocery or regular beer stores. To get the best IPAs, seasonals, stouts, barley wines, meades, porters, Belgians, bocks, etc…you have to go to a bar or a liquor store like Cool Springs Wines & Spirits.

If you’re a beer lover, you must stop by and see our selection. It keeps getting bigger and brighter every day.

FEATURED BEERS
Updated May 3, 2010

'Fade to Black' Stout by Left Hand Brewing Co., Longmont Colorado - This is a unique annual release that will change in style each year. The current version is a "foreign" stout, which is a style originally designed to survive long overseas journeys from Ireland to places like Jamaica and Sri Lanka. This is a slightly sweeter version of a normal stout that's not quite as strong as an imperial. The Fade to Black boasts some pretty complex flavors dominated by roasted malt. Dark chocolate and coffee-like flavors are accompanied by caramel, molasses, vanilla, burnt marshmallow and perhaps a hint of licorice. In all, it's an interesting beer that's a fun departure from all the other stouts out there.

Palo Santo Marron (American Strong Ale) by Dogfish Head Brewery, Milton Delaware - This is another unique offering from the folks at Dogfish Head. Palo Santo means "holy tree," and its wood has been used in South American wine making. Dogfish Head aquired some of this super-dense wood from Paraguay to add a unique character to this marron (maroon) colored beer. The wood aging helps to smooth out the strong alcohol content (12%) which ends up being hidden surprisingly well. The unique Palo Santo flavor is complemented with caramel, molasses, and lots of roasty cocoa and coffee-like flavors. If you like porters or strong ales, you owe it to yourself to try out this uncommon brew. By the way, this is another beer that pairs well with cigars (which are conveniently available next door at Woody's Smokes and Brews).
