Cool Springs Wines & Spirits' Featured Beer

Updated February 16, 2010

Sierra Nevada Glissade Golden Bock brewed by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. in Chico, California - This is one of the more unique beers we've tried in a while. They call it a golden bock, which is basically a heller (pale) bock like Rogue's famous Dead Guy Ale. At first sip, this is a fairly straightforward bock with grain flavors and a hint of green apple. On closer inspection, however, subtle peach, apricot, banana and orange flavors become evident, and the smooth, easy-drinking body keeps you coming back for more. At 6.4% abv, this beer is low in alcohol (for being high gravity), which makes it a good introductory beer for high-gravity newbies and a great candidate for session beer. This one is definitely not intended for cellaring. Many of the fresh flavors will eventually "fall out," so if I were you, I'd pick one up as soon as possible.
