If you’ve been by the store recently, you may have visited our new beer cellar. We’re really excited about it over here at Cool Springs Wines & Spirits. As you walk in the store, just head directly to your left.
It’s currently located where Frank’s Value Cellar used to be. But don’t worry! Frank’s value wines are still located in that general location. The truth is that Frank’s Value Cellar outgrew that location and needed a little more room to spread its wings. The leftover space was perfect for a beer cellar.
Why a beer cellar? For those of you new to the interesting beer laws in Tennessee, it breaks down like this. To sell any beer above 6.2% alcohol, you must have a liquor license. Thus you can’t find many of the best beers available in grocery or regular beer stores. To get the best IPAs, seasonals, stouts, barley wines, meades, porters, Belgians, bocks, etc…you have to go to a bar or a liquor store like Cool Springs Wines & Spirits.
If you’re a beer lover, you must stop by and see our selection. It keeps getting bigger and brighter every day.
FEATURED BEERS

30th Anniversary Series: Fritz and Ken's Stout by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., Chico, California - This is the first of four in the 30th anniversary series from Sierra Nevada. It's a collaboration between Ken Grossman from Sierra Nevada and Fritz Maytag from the Anchor Brewing company in San Francisco. Fritz is widely considered the godfather of the American craft brewing scene, and after tasting this stout I can see why. He apparently convinced Ken not to load this one up with hops like most Sierra Nevada beers (not that there's anything wrong with that). There is still some hop presence, but it's not nearly as in-your-face as one would expect from a Sierra Nevada brew. The focus is more on the malt--lots of pleasantly bitter dark chocolate and roasted malt flavors. This isn't at all surprising. What really sets this beer apart, though, is the beautiful balance and fantastically smooth texture and flavor. This is one of the best new stouts I've had in a long time and at 9.2% abv for only $9.99, it's also one of the best deals in the house. It really goes to show how an experienced and talented collaboration of brewers can produce some amazing beer.
Gonzo Imperial Porter by Flying Dog Brewery, Frederick, Maryland - This is arguably the best product from Flying Dog, and definitely my personal favorite. Just like Gonzo (Hunter S. Thompson), it's deep, complex, and a little nutty. Chocolate, caramel, and surprisingly sweet malt dominate the flavor profile and, as with most good porters, lots of roasty coffee-like flavors help to round it out. You might also find a unique hoppy kick on the finish. If you like porters, but are interested in something unique and different, this is a great option.
