Hebrew Vertical Jewbelation
Shmaltz Brewing Company is an American craft brewing company based in San Francisco California that owns HE'BREW Beer and Coney Island Lagers. Founded as "a celebration craft beer for Jews" by proprietor Jeremy Cowan, the company's beers now are distributed in over thirty-one U.S. states, Canada, and England. Shmaltz is known for blurring beer styles and using puns, art, history, and pop culture in every aspect of their products. As a contract brewer, third-party brewers produce their beers using the Shmaltz Brewing Company's proprietary recipes. Every year Hebrew comes out with a "Verical Jewbelation", this year they have taken all 7 brews from the last 7 years, blended them together and aged them in Sazerac 6 year old whiskey barrels. Seems like the new trend is to age brews in whiskey barrels, which is just fine by me.
Pours a slightly hazy dark brown with a brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma is full of dark grains with some dark fruits and a bit of a spice and rye whiskey backing. Flavor starts with dark grains and a bit of toffee and is joined by some dark fruit with the rye whiskey coming out in the finish. At 10.5 ABV this beer is ready to impress now or can be aged for a couple years. Pick on up before they are gone! 99 points ratebeer.com
