This week I will be reviewing Jolly Pumpkin's Madrugada Obscura Dark Dawn Stout. This is a Belgian inspired stout that is as dark as a moonless midnight, brimming of roasted malts and bitter hops. Pours a deep, dark, nearly opaque brown color with small but resilient dark tan head. Aroma of barbecue- a nice smoky wood character, earth, cocoa, coffee, and a little funk but not too much. Flavor is immediately sour and funky, with lots of berry fruits, grapes, and apples, along with roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, earth, and wood. Medium-bodied, with a funky, tart, roasty mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. 97 points ratebeer.com
