If you’ve been by the store recently, you may have visited our new beer cellar. We’re really excited about it over here at Cool Springs Wines & Spirits. As you walk in the store, just head directly to your left.

It’s currently located where Frank’s Value Cellar used to be. But don’t worry! Frank’s value wines are still located in that general location. The truth is that Frank’s Value Cellar outgrew that location and needed a little more room to spread its wings. The leftover space was perfect for a beer cellar.

Why a beer cellar? For those of you new to the interesting beer laws in Tennessee, it breaks down like this. To sell any beer above 6.2% alcohol, you must have a liquor license. Thus you can’t find many of the best beers available in grocery or regular beer stores. To get the best IPAs, seasonals, stouts, barley wines, meades, porters, Belgians, bocks, etc…you have to go to a bar or a liquor store like Cool Springs Wines & Spirits.

If you’re a beer lover, you must stop by and see our selection. It keeps getting bigger and brighter every day.

FEATURED BEERS

Manchester Star Strong Porter brewed by J.W. Lee's Brewery in Middleton Junction, England - Here's a gem that's easy to overlook with all the flashy labels and names out there. This is a fairly hoppy porter that features some interesting complexities. The recipe comes from a brewing notebook written around 1884. One might think that advances in beermaking would render such a recipe obsolete, but in fact, some recipes can definitely stand the test of time. This beer uses a combination of malts rarely seen in modern beer production that results in some interesting flavors. There are the slightly bitter dark chocolate and other subtle roasted flavors that one would expect from a porter, but the experience is heightened by flavors reminiscent of dried fruit, cashews, port wine, and perhaps a hint of tobacco. For those in the know, think abbey dubbel meets English porter. If you've developed a taste for complex brews, definitely give this one a try.

Moonraker English Strong Ale brewed by J.W. Lee's Brewery in Middleton Junction, England - This is a classic favorite in Great Britain that's been brewed for over 50 years. It's named after a legend about farm workers that attempted to rake the reflection of the moon from a lake, not the James Bond movie, (although I suppose they could be related), but none of that matters. What's important is that this is an approachable brew with lots of sweet caramel, rye bread and dried fruit flavors. This brew has won numerous awards over the years and is a favorite in the brewery itself. It's a fun choice for those new to high gravity beer and for long time fans as well.
