Orval Belgian Ale

Want a good beer while giving to a good cause? Have you ever had a Trappist brewed beer before? I'm sure everyone has heard about monks making delicious beer and drinking it while fasting but did you know that by drinking Trappist brews you help fund good charitable works in their local communities? For this reason, Orval is the first beer of the year to be reviewed here at CSWS. Within the walls of the Abbey, Orval started brewing in 1931 and use the money for social welfare and the maintenance of the Abbey itself. There are only a few Abbeys left in Belgium that still produce beer and Orval is one of them. Made from only the best spring water, two row malted barley and liquid candy sugar, Orval can be appreciated by just about anyone. Orval pours an amber color with big carbonation levels. The aroma has notes of lemon, brett, spices and hops. The flavor is slightly dry with notes of citrus, hops and some malty goodness. If you haven't had a Trappist beer, try this one first. You will be glad you did.
