Cool Springs Wines & Spirits' Featured Beer

V Saison by Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown, Pennsylvania - Saison is a rare style of beer that sometimes features strange sour flavors that only a few connoiseurs really enjoy, but Victory's V Saison is very approachable and flavorful. The original Saisons were brewed for farm workers in Belgium as a refreshing, low alcohol beverage, but today the style has evolved into a moderately high alcohol, flavorful Belgian-style beer.

The brewmaster has combined German malt, European hops, and Belgian yeast to great effect. The result is a full-bodied brew with a creamy texture and lots of carbonation. In fact, I recommend opening the bottle over the sink or outside, because it has a tendency to overflow with foam.

The flavor is definitely Belgian-inspired, but is also reminscent of a german wheat bock. Subtle flavors of banana bread, cloves, coriander and anise are complemented by caramel and citrus fruit. There is also a pervasive earthiness that is hard to describe but is often found in Saisons. The finish is dry with a light touch of mildly bitter hops.

If you're looking for something different and refreshing, the V Saison is a prime choice.
