Hot Mulled Wine
1.5 litre red wine (nothing fancy)
12 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
Rind of one lemon
Rind of one orange
2-4 Tablespoons sugar (to taste)
Directions:
Add all ingredients to a pot* (NOT Aluminum) and steep gently over medium heat until hot (do Not boil).
Serve in sturdy mugs
*a crockpot works great and makes the house smell wonderful
Swedish Glogg
A variation on the recipe above--just add bit more sugar (white or brown), a few cardamon seeds, ginger root, a pinch of grated nutmeg, handfull raisins and a handfull of sliced, blanched almonds. Heat these with the other ingredients and add a spoonful of the raisins and almonds to each cup when serving.
