The Best Boxed Wines for 2008
By Lindsay Funston
Dare to think outside of the bottle with one of these affordable, tasty, and environmentally friendly wines.
2008 Bota Box Shiraz
This juicy red wine―rich with ripe blackberry flavors―packs a punch. Though pleasantly supple, it is robust enough to cut through the spiciness of Mexican and Cajun dishes.
2007 Black Box Wine California Merlot
This easy-drinking wine has the soft, velvety texture typical of light-bodied Merlots. Plummy and slightly oaky, it goes well with grilled seafood and roasted chicken.
2008 Fish Eye Pinot Grigio
Sip on this ultra-refreshing, citrusy white during cocktail hour: Honeydew melon and apple notes give it a crisp, not-too-dry finish that goes well with light snacks, cheese, and crackers. It also makes a cool companion to Asian food and light pasta dishes.
2008 Andes Peaks Select Chardonnay
Chardonnay drinkers will appreciate the oaky, buttery flavors and zippy finish of this white from Chile’s Central Valley. Medium-bodied and touched with scents of vanilla, it works well with poached salmon and creamy soups and sauces.
