Hot Topic: Red Wine and Cola a Surprising Combination
Red wine over ice? Red wine with cola?
Source: Kalamazoo Gazette
Order a calimocho and watch heads turn.
That's because the calimocho is a half-and-half mixture of red wine and cola over a fistful of ice -- a combination that appeals to some people but turns off just as many.
I recently went to dinner with friends and they thought I had lost my mind. Later, a friend offered to buy a round. A blues band was playing loudly, so the friend thought he misunderstood my request. "Red wine and Coke?" he said with a grimace. "Are you sure? Look, keep that between you and the server."
All evening, people asked why I would do such a thing to red wine.
But the summer demands chilly jolts of joy, not room-temperature reds. A calimocho goes down smooth and easy -- you taste no alcohol. The balance of flavors is so pleasing that you ask for another and another.
The great beauty of the drink is that any red wine or cola will do. You can scrounge up both around the house. It is a great drink to make when you have just a little red wine left in the bottom of a bottle, like a poor man's sangria.
Take a risk and surprise your friends. We promise you'll love it! Check out our product promotions this week for a great red at a great price.
